150MW Ormonde project officially unveiled

Offshore wind is Europe's future, says Vattenfall CEO

A little more than a year after the Ormonde offshore wind farm began generating electricity, the 150MW project has been officially inaugurated by the project’s owner, Swedish energy company Vattenfall.

Located off the north west coast of England in the Irish Sea, Ormonde features 30 5MW REpower turbines and jacket foundations made by BiFab. Construction began in May 2010, with all turbines generating power since February 2012.

Marking the wind farm’s official launch, Vattenfall chief executive Øystein Løseth emphasised the role offshore wind will play in Europe’s energy future: "Ormonde is one of the most innovative operational offshore wind farms in the world and we believe it provides a glimpse into the future of offshore wind in Europe."
