The largest offshore wind turbine installation vessel built to date for use in China, the Hua’erchen, was delivered to its owner yesterday.
The twin-hull vessel was constructed by Jingjiang Nanyang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd and is 90m in length, 50m wide and has 6.8m moulded depth. It has been designed for the installation of both offshore wind foundations and turbines as well as component transport, and is equipped with an 83m main lifting hook platform and one 400t fully-revolving crane, with a 120m lift.
Hua’erchen cost 300m yuan ($47.6m) to construct and is owned by Guangdong Hua’erchen Offshore Wind Engineering Company.
As China’s offshore wind sector begins to gain momentum demand for special-purpose vessels capable of installing foundations and turbines installation is expected to outstrip supply.
