1GW Codling grid connection agreed

Fred. Olsen-Hazel Shore joint-venture project progresses

A 1GW grid connection agreement has been signed, paving the way for the Codling Wind Park to supply the UK's National Grid. Codling is a joint venture between Fred. Olsen Renewables and investment firm, Hazel Shore.

Planned for a site 13km off Greystones and Wicklow in the Irish Sea, it is fully permitted by lead consultants Natural Power with all necessary consents in place. The project's first phase would see up to 220 turbines and 1GW of capacity installed. The 200 turbines planned for the second phase are in the consenting process.

Nick Emery, CEO of Fred. Olsen Renewables said: "We are pleased to progress Codling Wind Park having consented the site in 2005. By securing grid connection we hope that, with a clear route to market, we can take the site in to operation within the next 5 years, delivering an additional 1GW to the UK's offshore renewable energy market."
