The deadline by which construction work must begin for installation of wind turbines at Bard Holding's 400MW Veja Mate offshore project in the North Sea has been extended by regulators until 30 June 2014.
The original deadline was the end of last year, but permitting authority, BSH, acknowledged yesterday that it has granted financially-troubled developer, Bard, an extension.
Bard asked to be given until the end of 2016 to begin construction, but BSH fixed the earlier date in view of transmission system TenneT's schedule for the installation of the BorWin2 export cable, which will link Veja Mate to shore. This is due to begin trial operations by December 2014.
TenneT had pointed out to BSH that in order to test BorWin2 there must be some electricity generation at Veja Mate.
Although Bard has not yet found an investor for Veja Mate, it has been able to convince BSH that considerable effort has been made in preparing the project, to the point of procuring and storing large components. This should allow the project to proceed rapidly once an investor is found. Bard continues to install its 400MW Bard Offshore 1 project, which began construction in December 2010.
