Leading state-owned utility China Huadian Group is launching early-stage preparations to develop a 300MW offshore wind farm in Xuwen county, south China’s Guangdong province.
Huadian will develop the 300MW project in the Qianshan, Xiayang and Wailuo sea areas of Xuwen, according to the county's economic promotion bureau.
Huadian's Guangdong branch and the Xuwen county government signed a protocol for the development of the project last March. Huadian received assurances that it would receive full support from the county.
Another project, the 200MW Xinliao Island Demonstration, is in development in the Wailuo sea area of Xuwen under an agreement made by Guangdong Yuedian Group and Mingyang in November 2011. Yuedian has won construction approval from the National Energy Bureau, according to the Xuwen county economic promotion bureau.
Yuedian has already built a 48MW demonstration offshore wind farm in Xuwen, 10km off Xinliao Island.
The offshore wind potential of Xuwen’s three sea areas is estimated at 1.5GW.
