An operational offshore wind portfolio of 349MW has been a key achievement of one of the UK’s largest energy companies, Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) during its current financial year.
Releasing information about its operational performance during the first nine months of fiscal year 2013 (April 2012 - March 2013), SSE has emphasised the success of its renewables business. With completion of the Walney 2 and Greater Gabbard offshore wind farms in 2012, SSE’s offshore wind portfolio is likely to have contributed about 17% of the company’s peak renewables output on 28 December 2012 2GW for the first time.
SSE’s renewable plant generated 5.2TWh during Q1-Q3, representing 81.3% of its gas-fired electricity output during the same period and 38.2% of its coal-fired output.
A first payment has been received by Greater Gabbard EPC contractor, Fluor, acknowledges SSE. It added that a "number of related claims and counter claims" remain to be resolved. Despite ongoing legal dispute, SSE and Fluor are due to develop the 1GW Firth of Forth offshore wind zone, via their Seagreen joint venture.
SSE's chief executive, Ian Marchant, will step down this summer after ten years at the helm, to be replaced by his deputy, Alistair Phillips-Davies.
