Designs for onshore electricity transmission infrastructure to link Triton Knoll offshore wind farm with the UK national grid have been presented by developer RWE. Proposed cable landing points and onshore cables routes will be available for public comment for eight weeks from 19 February.
The onshore infrastructure plans have been released by RWE just a couple of weeks since the UK Planning Inspectorate completed its examination of the 1.2GW Triton Knoll proposal. RWE now awaits a final regulatory decision about whether it can proceed with the project from the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (Decc), which is expected by the middle of this year.
The company submitted its consent application for the 288-turbine offshore wind farm, planned for 33km off England's north east Lincolnshire coast, in early 2012. If Decc approves the project, RWE hopes to begin construction in 2017.
