The second jack-up vessel built specifically for Fred Olsen's offshore wind-focussed installation firm, Fred Olsen Windcarrier, has been completed by Lamprell. The 132m Bold Tern will depart the shipbuilder's Jebel Ali facility in the United Arab Emirates this week for the North Sea.
Bold Tern joins its sister jack-up, Brave Tern, to comprise the Windcarrier fleet. Both vessels boast cranes with a lifting capacity of 800t.
Construction of Brave Tern was delayed, and finally delivered by Lamprell last autumn. The vessel has recently installed two meteorological masts in the of the UK's Dogger Bank offshore wind development zone.
One of the Windcarrier jack-ups is due to install the 30 Siemens 3.6MW turbines that will power the 108MW Riffgat offshore wind farm in the German North Sea. Installation is due to begin in April.
Lamprell has also built two jack-ups for Seajacks, the Leviation and Zaratan. The latter was delivered last year. The Dubai-based manufacturer is already building a third jack-up for Seajacks, Hydra.
