E.ON awards foundations contract to TAG Energy Solutions

Monopiles and transition pieces destined for Humber Gateway

TAG Energy Solutions has become the first UK manufacturer to secure a large foundations contract for a UK offshore wind farm. The Teesside-based firm will manufacture 16 monopiles and transition pieces for E.ON's 219MW Humber Gateway development.

Preparation will begin immediately at TAG's facility beside the River Tees. The first steel for the manufacture of the 60m, 650t monopiles and associated transition pieces should arrive in March, with completion of the contract planned for the fourth quarter (Q4) of this year. An additional 60 staff will be hired.

The contract win represents "a significant achievement in TAG Energy Solutions' development," said chief executive, Alex Dawson. "We are in the unique position of being the first, fully prepared British manufacturer to provide volume monopiles and transition pieces for UK wind farm developments."

E.ON's £736m (€880m) Humber Gateway project is being developed 8km off the Yorkshire Coast, close to the mouth of the Humber Estuary. Due for completion in 2015, it will feature 73 Vestas 3MW turbines.
