A company owned by one of Poland’s most successful businessmen, Jan Kulczyk, has been awarded its third offshore wind concession in the Polish Baltic Sea. A Kulczyk subsidiary has been awarded the right to develop the 1.2GW Baltyk Srodkowy II project, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore understands.
Altogether, Kulczyk Holding subsidiaries have won three offshore wind licenses, representing a combined development potential of 4GW. The other two projects are the 1.6GW Baltyk Polnocny and the 1.2GW Baltyk Srodkowy III wind farms. Kulczyk is thought to have originally aimed for four licenses with a combined capacity of about 4.6GW.
The company has also been successful in securing a highly-prized grid connection promise for one of its projects. Its 1.2 GW Baltyk Srodkowy III wind farm received a grid connection promise from national grid operator PSE last year and is scheduled to come online by 2020.
It is rumoured that Kulczyk is seeking partners to progress licensed projects to construction.
