E.ON's Rampion project back on track

Consent application resubmitted for up to 700MW wind farm

Resubmission of a consent application for the Rampion offshore wind farm was completed on 1 March by E.ON, after the company completed a short, additional round of consultation with local authorities.

The company originally submitted its application in mid-December 2012, but had to withdraw it in January, after it was discovered that some local authorities in East Sussex had not been fully consulted. This has now been completed, with no notable change made to the project plans.

The UK Planning Inspectorate has until 29 March to decide whether to accept E.ON’s application. It is excepted to do so. Once it has, much greater detail will be publicly available about the proposed design. The up to 700MW Rampion project is planned for waters off Brighton. Last year, E.ON altered Rampion’s turbine layout, in response to local surfers’ concerns that the original layout would reduce wave heights excessively.
