GE Power Conversion has signed a turnkey contract with Denmark's Lindoe Offshore Renewables Center (LORC). It is to build and commission a turbine nacelle test facility, capable of handling units with a power rating of up to 10MW.
The Lindoe Nacelle Testing project (LNT) will be located in the Lindø Industrial Park on the island of Funen. GE will undertake installation, commissioning and remote service for the project.
From 2014, the facility will enable LORC to test the functionality and performance of wind turbine nacelles. The turbine hub and all field operational software and hardware – including pitch control – may be tested.
"Users will be able to carry out a full range of tests on their equipment without having to adapt their turbine software or hardware," explained Ove Poulsen, LORC's CEO.
A fabrication lab designed to encourage the take-up of laser welding techniques by the offshore wind industry was opened at the site, earlier this year.
