The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) has delayed again, its projected date for a decision on the 25MW Atlantic City project. The BPU now says it will decide by 30 June, instead of 30 April.
If required, hearings will be held in the first half of April. The BPU's decision will be based on Fishermen’s Energy’s amended plan for pricing its offshore renewable energy credits (ORECs). The developer has obtained all state and federal permits needed for the offshore wind farm's construction, but needs BPU's approval to proceed.
New Jersey offers good wind resources, but development is being hampered by the state government’s failure to agree a mechanism for the sale of ORECs by offshore wind operators and their purchase by energy utilities.
