A more "adaptable" offshore wind support vessel with a 50t payload is to be built by CTruk Boats and Coastal Marine Boatbuilders (CMBL). The 50t vessel has been designed with the UK’s next generation of offshore wind farms in mind, which will be further from shore, and should be ready in February 2014.
The CTruk 50T will feature an adaptable, "pod" design, which will allow the vessel to switch from crew transfer mode to one featuring a large deck area suitable for the transport of components. It will be powered by four Cummins 610Hp engines and Rolls-Royce waterjets.
As wind farms are built further from shore "the challenge will be to make technician transfers more comfortable as well as providing vessels that can perform multiple tasks", CTruk marketing manager, Amanda Çetin, told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore. This has prompted CTruk to focus on maximising adaptability and improving stability.
CTruk was founded in 2010, specialising in the design and construction of boats made from composite materials. Several of its vessels are operated by sister company, CWind, but it has also supplied boats for other offshore wind vessel operators, such as Offshore Turbine Services and Dutch-based Sima Charters.
The company’s eleventh 20t multipurpose catamaran will be unveiled and named later this week, and will form part of the fleet operated by Offshore Wind Services. CTruk’s Alliance 20t catamaran, owned and operated by CWind, was recently commended for "outstanding" performance by London Array.
