The first job for the latest jack-up vessel designed to serve Europe’s offshore wind industry will be in oil and gas decommissioning. Following a naming ceremony yesterday, SwireBlueOcean’s 161m Pacific Osprey will have to wait until this summer to take on its first major offshore wind project.
The vessel has been contracted to work on turbine installation for the 288MW DanTysk wind farm being developed by Vattenfall and Stadwerke München. The jack-up will transport up to 11 Siemens 3.6MW turbines at a time.
Pacific Osprey was built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries. It is one of two jack-ups operated by Swire Blue Ocean and built by Samsung. Pacific Osprey’s main crane has a lifting capacity of 1,200t.
Officially unveiled in a naming ceremony yesterday in Odense, Denmark, the vessel may also be used later this spring to install Alstom’s 6MW Haliade for offshore testing in Belgian waters.
