Construction of a new harbour facility at Norddeich for Dong Energy is due to begin. Located on the Niedersachsen coast, Dong will use the site for construction supervision and as an operations and maintenance (O&M) base for its German North Sea offshore wind farms.
The first of these is Borkum Riffgrund 1. The 320MW project is under development 37km north-west of Borkum. Crew transfer vessels will sail from Norddeich, while foundations and turbines will be shipped from Aalborg and Esbjerg, respectively.
Construction at the 30,000m² Norddeich site will begin this month, with completion scheduled for the third quarter of this year. From 2014, it will host around 35 Dong employees, who will be responsible for Borkum Riffgrund 1's operation.
