Baltic 2 order prompts Bladt to head for Lindø

Jacket production announced for wind-focused industrial park

A production facility dedicated to manufacturing jacket foundations has been announced by leading offshore wind foundations manufacturer, Bladt Industries. The new 30,000m² facility will be located within the Lindø Industrial Park and will eventually be capable of producing more than one jacket per week.

The decision to build the facility has been prompted by Bladt’s success in winning an order for 41 jackets from the EPCI consortium that will build EnBW’s 288MW Baltic 2 wind farm. Bladt will also manufacture 39 monopiles for Baltic 2, in partnership with EEW SPC.

"We are already the global market leader within monopile foundations for offshore wind turbines which are currently the dominating foundation type for offshore wind turbines," said Bladt chief executive Peter Rindebæk, announcing the new site. "However, jacket foundations are expected to play a more prominent role medium to longer term as the offshore wind farms move into deeper waters. It is Bladt Industries’ ambition to be the market leader also within jacket foundations…and the order and establishment at Lindø are testaments to this ambition."

Last year, Bladt was bought by private equity firm, Nordic Capital. Bladt recorded growth in revenue and profit exceeding 30% in 2012 and it forecasts further expansion this year. Its 2012 revenue was €305m and its EBIT came in at €29m.

Lindø Industrial Park will also soon be home to a nacelle testing facility and a fabrication unit designed to encourage the use of laser welding by companies producing components for the offshore wind industry.

Commenting on Bladt’s decision to locate at Lindø, the industrial park’s leader, Michael Nymark Hansen, said: "This agreement is yet another step towards creating a large and dynamic wind energy cluster in Denmark. At Lindø Industrial Park, we have some of the most suitable facilities in Northern  Europe for transporting and lifting large-scale wind turbine and substructure parts."
