Construction has begun on schedule for the 216MW Northwind project in Belgian waters, with the first monopile already in place. Full commissioning should be achieved next year.
Installation of inter-array cables will start in June, followed by the first turbines in July or August, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore has confirmed. The wind farm will be powered by 72 Vestas V112 3MW turbines and will be located 27km off the coast from Zeebrugge.
Northwind is owned by the Colruyt Group and green energy company, Aspiravi Offshore. Financial close on the project was announced last June.
Belgian contractor, GeoSea, is installing Northwind's foundations and inter-array cables, and will also supply the jack-up, Innovation, for turbine installation. Jan de Nul is responsible for laying the export cable, while Bladt Industries is responsible for the manufacture and installation of the high-voltage offshore substation.
Flushing is serving as Northwind's installation base port for foundations and inter-array cables, while turbines will be transported from Esbjerg. Crew transport vessels will operate from Oostende.
