Boulder clearance has been completed for EnBW’s 288MW Baltic 2 project, scheduled for full commissioning next year. In just 17 days, Aberdeen-based Ecosse Subsea Systems (ESS) cleared boulders from 80 array cable routes and its team expects to begin trenching later this week.
Aberdeen-based ESS will deploy its patented ‘Scar’ subsea plough technology at Baltic 2. The Scar plough has been designed to reduce the risk of damage to array cables during trenching and, thus, rein in the likelihood of financial losses and insurance claims.
ESS has demonstrated the capability of the Scar plough at E.ON’s Humber Gateway site and is in advanced talks about a contract for the project, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore understands.
Suppliers contributing to the Baltic 2 project are working to a demanding timetable, as EnBW seeks to maintain its 2014 target for commissioning, despite delays during the pre-construction phase. These were primarily linked to the need for the design of foundations to be revised in light of challenging seabed conditions in some parts of the site.
Bladt Industries will supply both monopile and jackets for Baltic 2 and recently announced that it will open a new facility dedicated to jackets production. The Baltic 2 order will be the first order fulfilled by the new facility at Lindø.
