The final monopile was hammered into position yesterday by Seajacks’ Zaratan, at the 288MW Meerwind Süd / Ost project. The jack-up vessel is due to arrive in the Dutch port of Ijmuiden today, where it will "mobilise" for turbine installation. A second Seajacks vessel, Leviathan, is continuing to install transition pieces. More than half of these are now in place.
Commenting on completion of the monopiles, Seajacks' chief executive, Blair Ainslie, said: "The installation of the final monopile yesterday at Meerwind is a significant achievement for all who have been involved in the project. We are proud to have delivered this first phase of the project smoothly and on schedule over the challenging winter months".
Turbine installation will begin shortly, with Zaratan due to transport five Siemens 3.6MW units at a time, from the Danish port of Esbjerg. Full commissioning of the wind farm remains on schedule for this autumn. Meerwind Süd / Ost is owned by Blackstone and is being developed by Bremerhaven-based Wind MW.
