The consent application for Navitus Bay offshore wind farm will not be submitted late this year, as previously planned, “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore understands. Instead, submission of the project plans to UK authorities is now scheduled for the first quarter of 2014.
A third round of public consultation about the project was completed earlier this month. More than 2,000 people attended a travelling exhibition about the up-to 1.1GW wind farm, which is proposed for waters off England’s Dorset coast and close to the Isle of Wight.
"The verbal and written feedback received indicated that the vast majority of people came away from the events better informed about our proposals which is important for us as a company committed to open and transparent engagement," said Navitus Bay project director, Mike Unsworth.
The exhibition featured a 3D model, detailed photomontages and a visuals booklet that people could take away with them. Public resistance to the project has centred on fears about its impacts on local sea views.
The layout and location of the wind farm was revised last year in order to reduce the total number of turbines and to increase distances from some coastlines.
A fourth and final round of public consultation is planned for late this year, before the consent application is submitted. Navitus Bay is owned by Eneco and EDF. "All feedback received will be reviewed and analysed and we will look to address any issues raised in our final phase of consultation in the autumn," said Unsworth.
