Commissioning of grid connection infrastructure at Gwynt y Môr is progressing well, with first power at the 576MW wind farm off the north Welsh coast anticipated this summer.
The project's onshore substation at St Asaph has been energised and final snagging works are underway in advance of commissioning of the offshore substation, scheduled for next month, according to the project’s majority owner, RWE.
The barge, Cable Enterprise, is at work in Liverpool Bay on the project’s second export cable, having installed the first last year. Cable Enterprise will install a third and final cable later this year. Meanwhile, Polar Prince is at work on inter-array cables.
A2Sea’s jack-up vessel, Sea Jack, will begin installing the project’s 160 Siemens 3.6MW turbines, operating out of the port of Mostyn. The project's initial turbines should be installed during the first half of May, RWE told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore.
Earlier this week, a project partially financed by Gwynt y Môr's newly announced £19m fund for local community projects was unveiled. The fund contributed just over half the cost of the £250,000 project to improve disabled access at Rhyl beach.
