The offshore transformer station platform for RWE Innogy's Nordsee Ost offshore wind project will be built by Bladt Industries, after construction firm Nobiskrug shipyard was dropped by Siemens.
The developer gave notice on its contract with Siemens in March due to construction delays, an RWE spokesman told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore. Under the contract signed in August 2012, completion of the station was due in March 2012. It was two years behind schedule, he said, adding that lawyers would now get to work on contract penalty issues.
A new contract has been made with Danish firm Bladt Industries for the supply of the transformer platform. Some of the electrotechnical components supplied by Siemens may be taken over from the old contract, the spokesman said. The whole facility is expected to be completed ready for commissioning in 2014.
It has been reported in the German press that the quality of Nobiskrug's workmanship may have been behind Siemens' decision to drop the manufacturer. But Peter Seeger, regional head of metalworkers' trade union IG Metall, told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore that Nobiskrug is renowned for the high quality of its work. Nobiskrug shipyard spokeswoman Denise Hein declined to comment.
