The first of Austal’s new Tri Swath wind farm support vessels arrived in the UK last week. The 27-metre Cable Bay was built for Turbine Transfers at Austal's shipyard in the Philippines.
It was offloaded in Southampton on 10 May, with handover overseen by Austal’s UK-based staff. Sea trails are underway in the North Sea and are set to continue into next week.
Turbine Transfers placed an order for three of the vessels with Austal in October 2012. Constructed from aluminium, they can carry three crew, 12 personnel and 3.5 tonnes of cargo, at up to 23 knots. The vessels are set to be deployed at offshore wind projects in UK and German waters.
