First Gwynt y Môr turbine installed

Sea Jack deployed in Liverpool Bay

Turbine installation at Gwynt y Môr is underway. A2Sea's Sea Jack left Mostyn on Wednesday, laden with the initial batch of SWT-3.6-107 turbines. Installation of the first was completed yesterday.

Set to comprise 160 turbines, the 576MW project is under development in Liverpool Bay, 13km off the north Wales coast. Components began arriving in January from Esbjerg and weekly deliveries to Mostyn have been continuing. A second jack up vessel, Sea Worker, will arrive on the project this summer, with turbine installation due to continue into 2014.

The €2bn project is being built by RWE npower renewables and funded by RWE Innogy, Stadtwerke München and Siemens. Array cable installation commenced in March and first power is expected this summer. Gwynt y Môr is due for completion in 2014.
