Denmark's Blue Water Shipping and Sweden's Gillis Shipping are to co-operate on tapping the Swedish offshore wind market. Esbjerg-based Blue Water is currently involved at several European projects, among them Gwynt y Môr, Meerwind Süd / Ost, Riffgat, DanTysk, West of Duddon Sands and Anholt. Karlshamn-based Gillis Shipping AB has been involved in shipping for more than 60 years.
Jacob Kjærgaard, Blue Water's head of offshore wind Europe, said co-operating with Gillis fitted "perfectly with our strategy to be represented in the areas where we see possibilities for offshore wind activities." He added that the company was looking to offer clients "the same service in Sweden [that] we already do in Belfast, Germany, France, UK and Denmark" and that Gillis' local market knowledge made the match "perfect".
Sweden's current offshore wind capacity amounts to 160MW, but growth to several gigawatts is forecast over the longer term. The completion of E.ON's Kårehamn project will add 48MW this year. Sweden's largest offshore wind farm, the 110MW Lillgrund, is temporarily offline due to a cable fault.
