A2Sea's Sea Installer left Rotterdam this morning and set sail for Belfast. The vessel will join the Pacific Orca, installing foundations at the 389MW West of Duddon Sands (WoDS) project.
Foundations deliveries to Belfast commenced in early February. The 108 monopiles and transition pieces are being shipped from Bladt Industries' facilities in Aalborg, Denmark. They are due to be shipped to the project site in the Irish Sea, with installation scheduled to continue until November. FoundOcean will undertake the grouting work.
WoDS is being developed by DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables around 14km off Walney Island, Cumbria. Located close to the existing Barrow, Ormonde and Walney wind farms, the project will feature 108 Siemens 3.6MW turbines. They are due for installation between August 2013 and June 2014, with the Sea Installer set to be deployed. The project is due for completion in the second half of 2014.
