A2Sea's Sea Installer arrived in Belfast this morning, after a three-day voyage from Rotterdam. The jack-up vessel will join the Pacific Orca at West of Duddon Sands (WoDS) in the Irish Sea.
The vessels will install the 389MW development's foundations. The Pacific Orca departed Belfast on 19 May and arrived off Barrow-in-Furness the following day. It is currently moored at the project site.
WoDS is being developed by DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables. A DONG Energy spokesperson told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore that the commencement of foundations installation was expected "imminently".
The 108 monopiles and transition pieces are being shipped from Bladt Industries' facilities in Aalborg, Denmark. FoundOcean will undertake the grouting work.
WoDS' offshore substation is already in place, cable-laying is proceeding and the Siemens 3.6MW turbines will be installed from August. The project is set for completion in the second half of 2014.
