EDP Renewables is considering pulling out of the nascent Polish offshore wind market, according to Poland's Rzeczpospolita newspaper. The renewables arm of Portuguese developer EDPR was planning to develop 200MW of capacity there. EDPR has not returned “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Offshore’s invitation to comment.
The company has run into a number of obstacles. Not least, that Poland is over two years late in transposing the EU directive on renewable energy. In addition, the proposed support for offshore wind in the draft law transposing the directive is also set for revision in a few years' time. This is creating uncertainty and increasing risk, making the financing of offshore projects difficult.
Nevertheless, construction of Poland’s first offshore wind farm, the 600MW Baltyk Srodkowy I, is set to start in 2018, according to developer Kulczyk Investments.
