Fishermen's Energy has placed a wind monitoring buoy in federal waters off New Jersey. It has been relocated from a site near Atlantic City after more than a year of preparations and near-shore testing.
The developer is planning to build around 350MW of offshore wind capacity in the area. The equipment will provide a stream of environmental and meteorological data to support project design and development.
The 5-turbine, 25MW Fishermen's Atlantic City Windfarm (FACW) demo project is planned in state waters, initially. The developer has obtained all state and federal permits needed for its construction, but needs the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities' (BPU) approval to proceed. A decision is expected by the end of this month.
The planned 330MW Fishermen's Offshore New Jersey development would follow in the designated Mid Atlantic Wind Energy Area.
