GL Garrad Hassan publishes offshore wind O&M guide

Market worth £2bn a year by 2025

GL Garrad Hassan has published a guide to operations and maintenance (O&M) in offshore wind. It has been funded jointly by the Crown Estate and Scottish Enterprise. Aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises, the guide "gives new entrants to the sector everything they need to develop a picture of offshore wind O&M," Joe Phillips, GL Garrad Hassan's head of strategy and policy, said.

He added: "Offshore wind O&M is set to become a £2bn a year industry by 2025. We have published this guide in order to provide a gateway for people seeking to understand – and join – an exciting emerging sector". It can be downloaded from the Scottish Enterprise website.

Earlier this month, GL Garrad Hassan announced the launch of a research project aimed at cutting the cost of energy from offshore wind, through the use of new technologies. Project Force (turbine optimisation For Reduced Cost of Energy) will concentrate on advanced control and rotor technologies in the design of turbines in the 7-10MW range.
