The 650,000 square metre harbour expansion at the port will heavily used by the offshore wind industry with facilities specially designed for testing, pre-assembly and shipping of offshore wind turbines.
In a statement the port's management said: "The Østhavn has been built specifically for the pre-assembly and shipping of offshore wind turbines, and Vestas and Siemens have already moved in."
Amongst other activities, Siemens WT-3.6-120 turbines for the German offshore station Riffgat have been installed out of Esbjerg using the crane vessel Bold Tern owned by Norwegian company Fred Olsen Windcarrier.
Ole Ingrisch, port director at Port of Esbjerg told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence on 2 July that "offshore wind business has grown rapidly over the last four years".
