Wobben said it preferred not to comment at this stage, although local media report firsthand company confirm both the factory and the project.
The developer of the 100MW Esperanza complex, Agua Leguas, is a joint venture between Wobben and local engineering firm Seg Ingeniería. The site is located 12 kilometres from Paso de los Toros in the Peralta district of the Tacuarembó department.
Wobben will start ground moving for the wind development "just as soon as everything for the concrete tower unit is place, which is expected for September this year," said the adviser. That unit plans to employ 145 people, 120 of them locally.
The Esperanza complex was one of 22 projects, totalling over 900MW, to win provisional power purchase agreements in calls to tender 2011-2012 issued by Uruguayan grid operator Usinas y Trasmisiones Electricas (UTE).
Enercon plans tower factory in Uruguay
URUGUAY: Wobben, the South American subsidiary of Enercon, will start building both a 100MW wind project and a concrete tower manufacturing unit in Uruguay, according an adviser closely associated with the company.
