Speaking to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç shortly after Alstom won a 1.2GW Brazilian tender, the French company's senior vice president, Alfonso Faubel, said of the local sourcing requirements: "They are the rules of the game. Alstom has been in Brazil for 55 years and we expanded our portfolio by bringing in wind.

"We're familiar with how those rules work, and we've been obeying them in transport and hydro. But it's a challenge too, because there's not a second-tier supplier base to work with."

Brazil currently has 2.4GW of wind installed capacity, which is set to top 8GW by 2016.
