The company said it was closing two plants — Albacete in Castilla-La Mancha and Tudela in Navarre - and restructuring a third at As Somozas, Galicia. The cuts affect 6% of the total workforce.
Explaining the decision, Gamesa said it had introduced a number of new measures, including new production lines, to ensure the profitability of the factories.
Gamesa said the job cuts were part of the 2013-2015 restructuring plans outlined by chief executive Ignacio Martin in October last year.
Martin revealed plans to cut 20% of its global workforce between now and Q1 2013 as part of a global restructuring plan.
He said the cuts would be mainly in China, the US and Europe, totalling around 1,800. Spain is likely to take the brunt of the European job losses with 500 redundancies.
