The 60MW project will be built by the Moscow Agis Engineering company and local agriculture producer Runo.
The total volume of investments in the project is estimated at RUB 3-4 billion ($120 million). The new plant is expected comprise of 20 3MW wind turbines. No other details of the project were disclosed.
Both Siemens and Vestas, which have both been active in the region, produce a 3MW turbine. Vestas has supplied projects in the Ukraine, while in 2010 Siemens signed a partnership with two Russian companies, Rostekhnologii and RusHydro to set up production facilities for wind turbine components.
Currently the largest wind-power project in Russia is located in the Kaliningrad region, with an estimated capacity of 5.1MW.
There is a possibility that the electricity that will be produced by the new wind farm will be significantly cheaper than that generated from traditional energy sources.
According to the president of the Russian Association of Wind Power Industry, Igor Bryzgunov, the cost of the latter is estimated at RUB 5 ($0.16) per kilowatt hour and more, while using wind energy the cost of electricity may fall to RUB 2.5-3.2/kWh.
