McEntee replaces Vic Abate, who left to head GE's gas and steam-powered electrical turbine business. She was previously president and CEO of flow and process technologies, which covers power generation in the oil and gas sectors.
Prior to this, McEntee was general manager of power services and was promoted to vice president in March 2011. She holds a Ph.D in applied mathematics and has been with GE for 15-years.
McEntee takes over with GE holding top place in two of the three rankings for 2012. However, this is largely down to a rush to install projects in the US before the now-extended production tax credit was due to expire.
Elsewhere, the company has struggled to make inroads into the European market and its efforts to develop an offshore product have largely stalled with the GE4.1-114.
