The deal is for EDPR projects in southwest Oklahoma. The utility will begin receiving the power on 1 January 2016 from EDPR projects that are already online.
In a statement, EDPR said it reduced long-term merchant exposure in the US to 664MW. EDPR owns three projects in Oklahoma: the Blue Canyon I (74MW), Caddo and Comanche counties, Blue Canyon II (151MW), Caddo, Comanche and Kiowa counties, and Blue Canyon V (99MW), Comanche county.
EDPR merchant customers in Oklahoma include the Western Farmers Co-operative.
Georgia Power has been looking to increase its use of renewables. Earlier this year, it introduced the Georgia Power Advanced Solar Initiative (GPASI) which will contract up to 210MW of solar capacity through long-term purchase power agreements.
