The turbines are being produced by Spanish turbine manufacturer Eozen. For now, the factory, located in the Granada district of Ferreira, is producing just two 1.5MW permanent magnet direct drive turbines for the nearby 3MW experimental Padul wind development.
In 2005, Eozen acquired rights to produce the turbine under license to German technologist Vensys, which was acquired by Goldwind in 2008. The 1.5MW direct-drive turbine designed by Vensys has been Goldwind's main product offering in recent years.
Eozen told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç it will test and certify the machine at Padul, with eyes set mainly on export markets. The company also holds hopes for a thawing of the domestic market, where it has orders for 70MW in the sidelines.
The Ferreira factory had barely turned out a dozen turbines — exported to Portugal and India — before the government froze approval of subsidies for new wind projects in 2009.
Speaking to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç in September, Goldwind chief executive Wu Gang said Goldwind had no ambitions in Europe and was comfortable leaving the market to Vensys.
