The funding is under NER300, the European Union's programme for demonstration projects. Six wind projects were granted €273 million in the first round in 2011.
Wind categories include offshore wind farms with very large turbines, floating offshore turbines and onshore wind turbines for difficult terrains and cold climates.
The funding announcement follows news that hardly any member states are expected to meet their 2020 renewable energy targets.
The wind sector in particular is projected to fall short. Member states are aiming to generate 354TWh electricity from onshore wind in 2020 and 140TWh offshore.
However, according to analysis by the commission, onshore wind will only reach 210TWh, while offshore will produce only 43TWh.
The commission blames this on reduced national efforts and difficulties with infrastructure such as grid networks.
Last week, the commission opened the debate on the possibility of renewable energy targets post-2020. The European Parliament has voted in favour of creating targets for 2030.
