The newly named PowerWind has sold its first two PowerWind 56 turbines, with a capacity of 900kW, to the US and Romania, for installation in April and August 2013 respectively.
The US buyer is wind developer Surenergy for a site at Port Clinton, Ohio. The Romanian customer is farming enterprise SC Light Energy-Nalbant for a site at Nalbant in the Tulcea region.
Known as RK Wind until February 2013, PowerWind is a joint venture between wind developer RS India Infra Power and large privately-owned Indian electricity company PTC India.
It had been producing 600kW turbines exclusively for RS India Infra Power's around 1GW of pipeline projects until plans were changed to use larger turbines and the 600kW Indian design was abandoned.
The insolvency of small German turbine builder PowerWind in July 2012 provided the opportunity to acquire the 500kW PowerWind 500, 900kW PowerWind 56 and 2.5MW PowerWind 100 turbine types, including inventories, production-related assets and IP rights at the end of 2012. Production is now based in Gurgaon, in the Indian state of Haryana.
