Italy calls second wind tender under new programme

ITALY: Italian state energy management agency GSE has called the second tender for wind energy capacity available under a feed-in-tariff (Fit) system in place since 1 January.

With the second tender, a total 465MW in authorised onshore wind projects may obtain a FIT through an auction process that favours projects seeking a lower tariff.

Theoretically, a FIT could also be assigned to as much as 620MW in offshore capacity, although there is a shortage of advanced offshore projects.

"It's early to say how the tender will go," said Andrea Marchisio, a partner at renewable energy consultancy Elemens. "On one hand, some people were waiting to see how the first auction went, and now that's out of the way. At the same time, some people could be discouraged since some projects in the first round received heavily discounted FITs."

Auction offers may be made from 12 April to 10 June. GSE expects to announce results in August.
