Broadwind wins $35 million US tower order

UNITED STATES: Tower manufacturer Broadwind Energy has won a $35 million order from an unnamed US manufacturer.

It is the second major order Broadwind has won this year. In February, Broadwind announced a similar deal for $27 million, also from an unnamed "US wind turbine manufacturer".

Broadwind said the towers would be produced at its Wisconsin plant and would be delivered this year. The company revealed they were earmarked for a number of projects in the US.

Peter Duprey, CEO of Broadwind Energy, said: "The level of activity in our wind tower business remains strong, and this order moves us one step closer to filing our tower capacity for 2013."

The deals mark a potential upturn for tower suppliers in the US after issues with over-supply and cheap imports from Asia.

n January, Vestas signed a deal with an unnamed contractor to supply towers in North America from its factory at Pueblo, Colorado.

Like Broadwind, Vestas was unable to state the name of the customer or how many towers would be going to either Canada or the US. The agreement means it will be able to create 100 jobs by the end of Q1.
