Japan looks to rebalance renewables incentives

JAPAN: The Japanese government has announced the onshore wind feed-in-tariff (FIT) will remain unchanged while the one for solar is being reduced.

The new FIT rules apply from 1 April as the Japanese government looks to take a more balanced approach to the promotion of renewable energy.

Solar tariffs will decline to 37.8 yen ($0.39) per kilowatt hour for industrial use from 42 yen/kWh. Onshore wind tariffs were left unchanged at 23.1 yen/kWh.

No decision has been on offshore wind prices. The move was in line with expectations as solar tariffs had been set at excessively high levels amid hopes the price would fall rapidly on stepped up panel production.
