Diaz said the company, which is set to install its first 5MW offshore turbine in June, is ready to go ahead with the 7-8MW machine if the market conditions are right.
Last year Gamesa executive chairman Ignacio Martin announced the Spanish manufacturer was postponing development of the turbine. It was due to be built in 2014.
Diaz said: "We are expecting some changes [to the market]. We have prepared the 7-8MW turbine's development up to a certain level, we are in a position of wait and see." He added the development project would be in Scotland.
He also spoke about Gamesa's upcoming 2.5MW platform targeting low-to-medium wind conditions, and the markets it will be aimed at.
