Specifically, grid operator Red Eléctrica de España (REE) estimates wind production during the period at 16,410GWh, 36% up on the same period a year earlier.
Winter winds produced 6.329TWh in January 2013; the first time wind has exceeded 6TWh in a month.
The figures underline REE's claims of "world-class" grid integration measures. Due to only feeble interconnection abroad, REE needs to balance Spain's sizeable and variable wind output mainly internally.
