The Pantex wind farm, located on 1,500 square metres to the east of the plant, will use five Siemens 2.3MW wind turbines. It will be the first project developed by the NNSA and the largest by a federal department.
The project will also be available for research to Texas Tech University. The deal includes a five-year service and maintenance agreement.
Speaking about the deal, NNSA production office manager Steve Erhart said: "Three years of hard work, dedication and determination have paid off. The NNSA’s goal was to turn Texas wind into energy, and we have overcome numerous hurdles in implementing the contracting strategy."
