The Mount Storm wind farm uses Gamesa G80 2MW turbines and is one of the largest projects in the eastern US. The service agreement is for ten years, commencing when the current agreement ends in July.
Gamesa has been handling O&M at the project since it became operational in 2008. Nedpower Mount Storm, a 50-50 joint venture between Shell and power company Dominion, is situated along the high ridges of the Canaan Valley in West Virginia. The 264MW project supplies the Mid-Atlantic power grid.
The wind farm attracted some opposition locally over visual intrusion and its location close to a national heritage site. It was sold by Dutch developer Nedwind in 2006.
Gamesa wins 264MW O&M deal
UNITED STATES: Gamesa has been handed a 264MW operations and maintenance (O&M) agreement from Shell for a project in Western Virginia.
