Vestas wins in South Africa

SOUTH AFRICA: Vestas has received an 73.8MW order for a project in South Africa.

The contract is for 41 V100 1.8MW low wind turbines and includes a 15-year maintenance deal. It is set to be commissioned by 2014.

Vestas was unable to reveal the name of the customer.

Last month, Vestas has received a 67MW order from Umoya Energy for a wind farm in Western Cape province, South Africa.

Again the deal is for the V100. They will be going to the Hopefield wind farm, located in the south of the country.

The turbines will be delivered in Q2 2013 with the aim of bringing the project online by February 2014.

Earlier this year, South Africa approved seven wind projects totalling 562MW as part of its second renewable energy tender.

The government awarded 1.04GW out of a total of 1.23GW available. The projects include the 138MW Amakhala Emoyenia project in Eastern Cape province.
