UNITED STATES: AMSC has said it has completed the design of its 10MW Sea Titan turbine and is in talks with potential partners to build the machine.

Speaking to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç at Husum Windenergy, AMSC executive vice president Tim Poor said the 10MW direct drive turbine was ready to go and the generator had been tested by the US Navy.

Poor also said the company was in discussions with blade manufacturers. "We're not going to build it on our own [but] the designs are ready," he said.

The Sea Titan has been in development since 2010. At that time, former customer Sinovel announced it was also developing a 10MW turbine leading many commentators to believe it was using the Sea Titan design.

However, Poor confirmed Sinovel had not had access to the Sea Titan. He said: "Sinovel was presumptuous that AMSC would give them the design. We did not give them it."

On AMSC's ongoing legal battle with former Sinovel, Poor said the US company was prepared to take the issue into other markets. AMSC recently filed a complaint against Sinovel in Brazil.
